“I am angry as well as jealous of you, Aarthi”, whispered Aarthi's friend, in her ears, during one of the boring, lecture hours.
“Why?”, questioned Aarthi.
“Never thought you would get this close to my hero. What happened to his girlfriend? How come she is keeping quiet?”
“Hey, we are just friends. And he doesn't have a girlfriend. He lied, simply to shut his friends’ mouth and stop teasing”
“Really?”
“Yes! He told me.”
“Wow! He keeps proving that he is a hero”
“Now you can try your luck”, winked Aarthi.
“Yeah! But, you are blocking my way now”
“Never I will. We are just friends. Nothing more. I will be really happy to see you guys together”
“Are you serious or just making fun of me?”
“I am bloody serious”
“Then, will you talk about me?”
“Hey! Don't be stupid. Just go on and talk to him. No courier service is recommended, when it comes to your love life”
“Hmmm… Let me see. I dont have guts though”
Aarthi expected her friend to express her heart, to Rakesh. But, it never happened and her friend didn't look serious about it. So, Aarthi wasn't sure about it and she did not mention about her, to Rakesh either.
Finally, final year of college life arrived and it was the times of, tension filled, campus interviews.
“Rakesh, are you not attending the interviews? Saw your name on the volunteers list”, said Aarthi, as she was talking to Rakesh, one fine evening.
“No Aarthi. I am going to pursue Masters”
“Wow! So which country are you planning to go?”
“US only”
“Great! So started preparing for the exams”
“Yes”
“All the best Rakesh!”
“Thanks Aarthi. Why don't you do Masters too? You have good grades”
“Hmm… I would love to. But, my parents won't let me. Even if they let me, my relatives won't. It was a big struggle for me to take up Engineering. None, was interested in professional course. Now, MS in a foreign country, is totally out of question”
“But, you can try talking to your parents and convince them. Anyways, I am going there. I shall help you in all means”
“Thank you Rakesh. They are already thinking about getting me married, soon after I finish college. Somehow, I have got permission, to work for a couple of years, before I get married. Don't know what is going to happen!”
“Marriage? At this age? You are too young to get married”
“Hey, I am just in right age, to get married. But, I don't feel like now. After some time, I will be in a state of mind, to get married”
“Someone talented like you, should reach heights and not end up in kitchen”
“Ha ha ha.. Thanks for believing in me”
Aarthi performed well in the Interview and got selected in one of the best Corporates. It was a proud moment for Aarthi and her family. Yet another feather on her hat! Even though she wanted to pursue post graduation, she was feeling alright to take up a job.
The end of college life started to unwrap. All were busy with their projects for past few months and in a couple weeks they are about to take their exams, final semester exams. Gossips, teasing, boring lectures, scary labs, assignments, annoying class tests, strict lecturers, funny professors, cold wars, louder laughs, secret tears, shared happiness, little failures, big achievements, friendship across the blocks, always crowded canteen, beautiful girls, handsome boys, drooling, trolling, flirts, fights, the silent ones, the talkative ones, the show off ones, the submissive ones, broken hearts, cupid hearts, blossomed love stories, blemished love stories, mended friends, split ups, lunatics, fanatics, creatives, recreatives, rebellious, amicable, friend in crime, friend in need, international authors, local authors, toppers, losers - what not you face in a college life. Everyday, good or bad, is a memory. Even though, at the back of your mind, a voice screams about your responsibilities and future, intensity of fun, never diminishes.
As Aarthi and her friends finished their last exam and walked out of the room, it was hard for them to believe that, their college life is over. Parting away is not a piece of cake. Even if friendship continues past the college days, we can't sit in that very same class, listen to a boring lecture, crack jokes and giggle. Just like a river, life cannot revert.
