Later that night, Priya's mum, interrogated her with a million questions. Her dad did not say or ask anything. He watched the emotional rift between Priya and her mum. He was only trying to understand Priya's stand. He was keen for the words spilled from her mouth. Priya finally gained all courage to face her parents and started explaining her will and wish.
After listening to her, Priya's father left the room, wiping off his irresistible tears. Her mom was making a big cry and embarrassed Priya. She accused Priya for betraying them. But, Priya felt being betrayed by her own parents. The two lovely people who understood her, in and out, are now being resistive to cognising her feelings. But, Priya’s heart reassured her that, falling in love is not a crime.
Few days later, Priya accidentally heard her parents talking about Raj. She wasn't trying to be immoral, but was more curious.
“Are you sure that you enquired well?” Priya heard her mom, questioning her dad.
“Yes, you know my friend is trustworthy. He gave me two hundred percent assurance, that Raj is a gem. Also, many families in that town have extended matrimonial proposals already, purely because he is a good man and hardworking. Though Raj is not well off, he seems to be a man of good will”
“How can you blindly trust your friend?”
“I just told you what my uncle said about their family, right?”
“Yes, but your uncle left that town nearly 15 years back and how can I consider him either, even though he claims to know Raj’s father?”
“Listen, it's not only what others said about him. I like him, actually. I should admit that. The other day, he was so tensed and his eyes were edging with tears. No man would shed tears, unless something is very dear to him. His liking should bypass his ego, to let out the emotion. His eyes spoke the truth. My gut feeling says he will be the best match. Above all, I want my darling daughter to be happy”
“I am still not convinced”, said Priya's mom in a low voice.
Priya's father said something to convince her mom, but Priya was too happy that she neither wanted to nor bothered to hear it, anymore.
She went flying into her room and she already felt floating in the air. She couldn't control her happiness and called Raj, even though it was almost middle of the night.
“Hello, Priya. Hey what happened? Are you ok? What's the matter?”, panicked Raj.
He heard Priya sobbing.
“Hey please speak up. Where are you now? What happened?”
“I am at home only”
Raj felt a bit relaxed when he heard that. But, he was worried as if why she was so upset.
“Why are you crying, Priya?”
“Raj, I am very happy now. You know what happened?! I just went out of my room to get some water and I heard my mom and dad talking bout you. My dad enquired about you it seems and he is very glad that I chose Mr.Right”, said Priya and she sounded composed. She continued, “He was trying to convince my mom and was praising you. I couldn't control my excitement and called you right away”.
Priya's excitement could now be sensed in her voice. Raj felt relieved and he stayed calm.
“You there? Are you not excited? Why are you staying calm?”
“Nothing Priya”
“What nothing?”
“You overheard your parents’ conversation and called me to discuss that. Hmmm… this doesn't sound good”
“Why do you talk like this? Are you not interested in marrying me? I thought you would jump up in joy”
“Yes, I am happy only”
“Sounds like you are not”
Raj laughed heartily.
“Why are you laughing like this?”
“Hey, I am expressing my joy”
“It looks like you are making fun of me”
“Hey, seriously no dear”
Again, he laughed.
“What's this for? Don't tell me you are happy only, again”
Priya sounded angry, but Raj knew that's fake. She is super excited and that's why she is silly.
“Hey Priya. I knew this would happen”
“How?”
“Something told me… maybe my gut feeling”
She didn't say anything.
“Trust me Priya!”
“Alright! I agree that you are genuinely happy”
“Good. Now go and sleep. Don't walk around listening to other’s conversations”
“What? Do you think I don't have anything else to do?”
“I simply said”
“How could you say so?”
She was angry again. Raj couldn't hold his laughter and bursted out laughing.
“Raj, why are doing this? Can't you get any serious?”
“Hey, be cool! Anyways congratulations! You have completely transformed into a typical wife”
“What?”
“Yes. Initially you were my crush. Never spoke much to me. Then my flirt, with romantic smiles and looks. Then slowly you turned into my lover and used to talk for hours, with absolutely no worthy content. Now you have transformed into my wife - questioning, scolding and above all justifying everything that you do. Congratulations again!”, explained Raj humbly and started to laugh again.
“You idiot… go to hell”, said Priya. She also laughed heartily. She would have least expected that what she just said was about to get real.
